With the national debt now at $16 trillion, the Republican National Committee released a video hitting President Obama for persisting in his excessive spending even though he knows that too much debt can ruin the economy.

“We now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man woman and child,” Obama said, before he added $5.4 trillion to the debt, as the RNC recalled. “That’s irresponsible, that’s unpatriotic.”

Obama has also warned that “if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery [then] at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could lead to a double-dip recession.”
