CHICAGO (AP) — A gunman firing from inside a vehicle has shot and wounded two Chicago gang enforcement officers during a traffic stop.
Friday night's shooting set off an exchange of gunfire that also wounded the two people inside the vehicle.
Those involved were among more than a dozen people shot throughout the city during a violent start to the weekend.
A police statement says a male passenger opened fire as officers approached the vehicle in the South Side Washington Heights neighborhood.
One of the officers was hit in the leg and has been hospitalized in good condition.
The other officer was struck in his protective vest, which saved from more serious injury.
The two people in the vehicle were also hospitalized.
