2 men arrested in shooting of girl, 8

WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. police say they've arrested two men in a shooting that critically injured an 8-year-old girl in Southeast Washington.

Police said Saturday morning that they've charged 19-year-old Karie Brown and 21-year-old Demtrius Patten with assault with intent to kill.

The girl was shot in the chest Friday afternoon as she walked home. Family members identified her as Makayla Darden.

Police have said the girl was likely hit by gunfire during an unrelated shooting, but they have not released additional details.
