The National Park Service announced Tuesday that Saratoga Preserving Land And Nature and the state-affiliated National Heritage Trust have received the funds from the American Battlefield Protection Program for projects in the Schuylerville area. The organizations will join the Saratoga National Historical Park in nearby Stillwater to oversee the projects.
Saratoga PLAN was awarded more than $21,000 for planning and designing interpretive signs for a local trail that's part of a six-mile historic loop linking local sites from the Battles of Saratoga.
Natural Heritage Trust received $80,000 for a study of two colonial-era battlefields in Schuylerville.
The battlefield protection program promotes preservation of historic battlefields associated with wars fought on American soil.
