ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Officials and news reports say three gunmen killed a man and drove away with his van before shooting at security forces manning a roadblock. A soldier and a policeman died in the attack.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Thursday's incident on a highway in the central province of Nigde was a "terror act." No group was identified and a motive was not provided.
Erdogan said two of the assailants were later caught but that security forces were searching for a third, who escaped.
Kurdish, leftist and radical Islamic groups have carried out terror attacks in Turkey in the past. Kurdish rebels are observing a cease fire declared last year as part of efforts to end a conflict that has killed thousands of people since 1984.
