ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) — A heavy snowfall and winter storm conditions around the region has crippled Detroit Metropolitan Airport, where at least 100 flights have been cancelled or rerouted and at least 240 others delayed by an hour or more.

The fringe of a winter storm centered farther south in Ohio pushed across southeastern Michigan on Wednesday, and the National Weather Service reports 4.8 inches was already on the ground at the airport in Romulus by 7 p.m. The storm is expected to taper off Thursday.

In West Michigan, the Gerald Ford International Airport serving the Grand Rapids area reports two cancelled flights Wednesday.
