BAN ON TEXTING-WHILE-DRIVING BACK IN LEGISLATURE
A Senate panel has unanimously approved a bill imposing a statewide ban on texting while driving. But eventual approval by the House is far from sure. The Senate Communications committee on Wednesday voted 9-0 for the bill.
FLORIDA HOUSE PANEL APPROVES IMMIGRATION TUITION BILL
A measure that allows in-state college and university tuition rates for certain U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants is now moving through the Legislature. House Speaker Will Weatherford promised in his opening day speech to back the legislation. And on Wednesday a House panel unanimously approved the bill.
VIETNAM VETERAN HONORED WITH BRONZE STAR
It's been 46 years since Robert French was shot during a three-day battle in Vietnam. On Tuesday, he was finally awarded a Bronze Star during a ceremony at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.
PREGANT WOMAN STABBED
A 40-year-old Ocala woman is recovering in a hospital after she was stabbed more than 30 times. Police say an uncle of the woman's husband stabbed her during a dispute over who will inherit his mother's estate. She was 22 weeks pregnant. The woman and the unborn baby are listed in critical condition.
POLICE ANNOUNCE REWARD IN SNOWBIRD SLAYING
Hallandale Beach police on Wednesday announced a $51,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects in the deaths of a Canadian couple found slain in their South Florida condo. Police say the 71-year-old man and 65-year-old woman were asphyxiated.
