6 million gallons lost in water main break in Md.

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a water main break on a busy Hyattsville street caused the loss of 6 million gallons and covered the suburban road during rush hour.

Prince George's County Police say the break was reported about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on Rhode Island Avenue at Crittenden Street.

Photos and videos showed brown water gushing onto the street, which has buckled.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said the break was contained about 7 p.m. A communications supervisor with Hyattsville it is unclear when the road will reopen.
