The District is sending 60 police officers along with officials to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. in September at a cost of about $350,000 a police spokeswoman said. The cost is expected to be reimbursed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

"It is not uncommon for jurisdictions to share resources for national special security events, such as this one," said Gwen Crump, spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police Department. "In fact, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will send officers to D.C. for the inauguration."

The city is sending 14 official delegates to the convention, scheduled for Labor Day weekend, but dozens more city figures are expected to make the trip.
