A 77-year-old man died after he was struck by a sport-utility vehicle in Anne Arundel County, police said.

The incident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. Monday on Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard near Edgewood Road in Linthicum. Nelson Bert Lehnert, of Linthicum, was struck by a 2002 Ford Explorer after he apparently stepped off a curb, according to Anne Arundel County police. There are no crosswalks or pedestrian control devices in the area where the crash occurred.

Lehnert was taken to a hospital, where he died a few hours later. The Ford's driver was not injured.

Police believe that the main cause of the incident was pedestrian error, and speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
