An 86-year-old woman was hurt when she drove her car through the front of a Pizza Hut takeout in Arlington during lunch hour Thursday.

Shortly before 1 p.m., a 2010 Honda Fit jumped the curb in front of the business in the 3300 block of Lee Highway and crashed through the glass before coming to rest at the counter, said Arlington County police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.

No customers were inside the restaurant and the four employees were behind the counter, he said.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle, and Arlington County Fire Department crews extricated her from the vehicle and she was transported to a hospital for precautionary measures.

County inspectors determined that the building was structurally sound, but it was being boarded up for repairs.

An investigation is ongoing, but it appears that the woman mistakenly stepped on the car's accelerator instead of the brake.
