ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Nine Twin Cities Rainbow supermarkets will close Tuesday as owner Roundy's exits the market.
The nine stores are left over from a deal announced in May, when a group of buyers purchased 18 other Rainbow locations and turned most of them into Cub Foods or Byerly's stores.
Nine Rainbow stores were not part of that deal, and efforts to sell them to other grocers didn't keep them from closing down.
Rainbow supermarkets will close in Cottage Grove, Shoreview, Inver Grove Heights, Apple Valley, Blaine, Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Maple Grove and Savage.
An official at Milwaukee-based Roundy's confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press (http://bit.ly/1wRUZHn ) the stores will be closing.
Meanwhile, Rainbow stores that were part of the deal have been handed over to their new owners.
