A luxury waterfront estate home ideal for family living

The home at 1509 Severncroft Road, Annapolis, has all the luxury owners want in modern estate homes yet is set in a neighborhood with the wholesome simplicity reminiscent of the 1960s.

Designed by Marta Albright and constructed by Jim Collister, both well-known locally, the house sits on almost two acres atop a bluff with 250 feet of waterfront and the community’s deep-water dock out front. This home, like its neighbors, has a slip. But what really sets this home apart is that it’s in the 27-acre, nine-home Bancroft on the Severn neighborhood.

“Bancroft is as close as you get to growing up in the 1960s,” said dentist Heather Ruland, who lives nearby with physician husband Chuck and their kids.

“Children and school buses are all over and Chase Creek Swim Club (a community pool) is close,” said Ruland.

A half-mile from Route 50, the home is about three miles from downtown Annapolis. It’s even closer by boat, said owner Greg Fasick: “Drive under two bridges and you’re there.”

Of course, the 6,000-square-foot home “is perfect for anyone who wants to live near the water,” said listing agent Lori Gough, Prudential Carruthers Realtors, Annapolis.

But the house is much more than a waterfront setting.

Step inside and you’ll see American Walnut used for the main level floors; the two-story foyer floor is marble.

This is clearly a home made for entertaining. The spacious gourmet kitchen has a center island with sink, eat-in area and granite countertops. An adjacent butler’s pantry contains a wet bar and second refrigerator. The top-end appliances include a Thermador six-burner stove with double ovens, three Fisher & Paykel drawer-style dishwashers, plus a KitchenAid warming oven and wine fridge.

Off the kitchen is a cozy family/living room with fireplace (one of four in the home) that faces the river, dining room and home office. Decorative metal transoms frame arched doorways.

Upstairs, another fireplace warms the master bedroom, where you can glimpse the Severn River through tall windows and off the deck. A walk-in closet with granite-topped island contains a built-in Whirlpool dry-cleaning appliance, wet bar and mini-fridge.

In the master bath is a large Kohler tub with jacuzzi sprays and an oversized glass-block shower with top-end Grohe fixtures.
Two more bedrooms have their own baths, and a fourth bedroom — perfect for a teenager, perhaps? — has a loft, family room, bedroom, full bath, dressing area and balcony.

On the lower level the family and guests can enjoy a game room, gym, sauna and second family room with fireplace.

Adding to the ’60’s appeal of the area, the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail “is a stone’s throw away,” said neighbor Heidi Hiltabidle, who often bikes the trail with her family on weekends.
