Want to check out one hot mess of a football conference? Look no further than the ACC's Coastal Division. One of those teams will play in the ACC championship game on Dec. ?1 for the right to play in the Orange Bowl.
Duke, North Carolina and Miami are all 3-2 and tied for first. Virginia Tech is right behind them at 2-2 with one fewer game played -- even though the Hokies were left for dead after allowing 86 points in conference losses to North Carolina and Clemson this month.
Virginia Tech's one advantage? It already beat Duke and plays at Miami on Saturday. The Tar Heels might be playing the best of anyone with an explosive offense and five wins in their last six games, including wins over both Miami and Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, the one loss was 33-30 to Duke.
The surprising Blue Devils look like they're in good shape -- except they were crushed by then-No. 11 Florida State last weekend, face No. 10 Clemson this weekend and host Miami in the season finale. As good a story as it would be for Duke football to play for a title, the schedule does it no favors.
