AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An eastern Ohio agency will sell water this fall from two reservoirs to natural gas drillers to limit roadway wear and tear by water trucks.

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District will sell water from Clendening Lake in Harrison County and Piedmont Lake, located mostly in Belmont County.

Each autumn the lakes are lowered to allow them to refill with winter rain and melted snow.

The Ohio Township Association's board of directors endorsed water sales to drillers.

However, the Akron Beacon Journal (bit.ly/Tv6V3Q) says some local groups have opposed the water sales.

The district and Army Corps of Engineers oversee 16 reservoirs and dams in eastern Ohio to control flooding.
