Alexander Burns reports that Rep. Todd Akin has released a new ad this morning after suffering significant fallout from his comments about “legitimate rape.”

“Rape is an evil act,” begins the beleaguered candidate. “I used the wrong words in the wrong way and for that I apologize.”

The Missouri senate candidate has been hit by an onslaught of calls from fellow Republicans insisting that he exit the race.

“The mistakes I made were the words I used, not the heart I hold.” Akin concludes, reminding voters he wants “tough punishments for predators.”
