An Alexandria man was arrested after he assaulted a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer at Washington Dulles International Airport, authorities said.
David Gerald, 30, has been charged with forcible assault on a federal law enforcement officer.
On Sunday, Gerald and his girlfriend arrived at Dulles from Amsterdam when a CBP dog alerted to the possibility of drugs on the woman. Gerald then tried to touch the dog, and the K-9 handler instructed him not to do so, according to a charging document.
Gerald refused to cooperate with the officer's questions and tried to leave. The officer attempted to prevent Gerald from doing so, and Gerald struck the officer in the face.
When CBP officers inspected Gerald's luggage, they found a pipe with marijuana residue, the charging document stated.
