< p>ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Although national retailers reported disappointing sales during the Christmas holiday season, several retailers in central Louisiana reported healthy sales.

The Town Talk of Alexandria polled eight retailers. The newspaper reported (http://townta.lk/WaxeXI ) that seven said their sales numbers met or exceeded expectations. One reported performing under expectations, but only slightly.

The Alexandria Mall had a strong weekend after Thanksgiving with some tenants taking the unusual step of opening at midnight on Black Friday — the Friday after Thanksgiving. Interest was so high that General Manager John Benton said they are considering opening the whole mall at midnight on Black Friday in 2013.

Benton said he didn't hear of a large drop off in performance from mall retailers after the Black Friday rush.
