An alleged police impersonator was arrested after he tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Capitol Heights police officer, police said.
Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni, 29, was charged with one count of impersonating a police officer and released on his own personal recognizance, Prince George’s County police said.
Mastrogiovanni was driving a white pickup truck Wednesday afternoon when police said he tried to stop the officer. The officer was in his personal vehicle at southbound Route 301 and Trade Zone Avenue.
Mastrogiovanni said he was a military police officer from Louisiana and told the Capitol Heights officer that he was speeding, according to police. The Capitol Heights officer told Mastrogiovanni that he had no jurisdiction and that it was illegal in Maryland for him to have red and blue emergency equipment in his truck.
Mastrogiovanni left the scene as the Capitol Heights officer notified Prince George’s County police about what had happened. The officer followed Mastrogiovanni until Prince George’s police arrived.
