Amid Minor Violence, 60.12 Percent Voting In UP

Barring minor incidents of firing blanks, stone pelting and scuffles, 60.12 percent of the voters exercised their franchise in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh Thursday. Voting was held at 21,990 polling stations, of which 4,757 were declared sensitive. Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha reportedly telling one media outlet that people boycotted polling for various reasons at 12 of the polling stations. In Mainpuri from where Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is seeking re-election to the Lok Sabha, 60.80 percent cast votes, 11 percent more than the last general elections.
