DARIEN, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo restaurant credited with inventing chicken wings is dropping anchor at a western New York amusement park.
A new Anchor Bar restaurant will open this spring at the Darien Lake Amusement Park, in Genesee County midway between Rochester and Buffalo.
The owners of the landmark Buffalo bar and Darien Lake announced this week that the new eatery will be located along the park's Waterfront Boardwalk. The restaurant will be open when the park's season begins on May 11.
The park will own and operate the Anchor Bar franchise. Other franchises are located in Hamilton, Ontario and the Buffalo airport. A fourth location is planned in Burlington, Ontario.
Teressa Bellissimo is credited with creating the first Buffalo chicken wing in March 1964 at the original Anchor Bar.
