NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — Students at North Kingstown High School are being asked to sign a pledge not to text while driving as part of a statewide public awareness campaign.
Attorney General Peter Kilmartin is scheduled to join with the state Department of Transportation and school and town officials on Thursday to discuss the dangers of distracted driving. The effort is part of AT&T's "Txtng & Drivng ... It Can Wait" campaign.
Officials have said that 43 percent of teens admit to texting while driving.
The anti-texting campaign was launched in September at Cranston High School East.
Hundreds of students are expected to sign a "pledge wall" at North Kingstown High School.
