Apple investors are rejoicing on news of a deal between Apple and China Mobile, the world's largest mobile phone company. This was not a complete surprise, however. A website owned by a China Mobile subsidiary recently began taking preorders on the Apple iPhone 5S and 5C. The prospect of selling iPhones to China Mobile's 740 million subscribers opens up the hazard of what venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki termed "Chinese math". That's when investors and analysts start saying things like "All Apple has to do is sell to just 20% of China Mobile's subscribers to get to nearly 150 million units sold. That should be easy!"
