DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Michigan's Arab American National Museum is preparing to roll out its biennial arts forum this week.
The Dearborn museum's DIWAN5: A Forum for the Arts includes Arab American Book Award-winning actor Suheir Hammad, and visual artists John Halaka and Reem Gibriel.
Topics to be addressed at the two-day forum that starts Friday include the effect of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on Arab American art and artists' response to the Arab uprisings.
Museum officials say the forum is geared toward artists, students and others interested in the art of Arab Americans and their "diverse creative output."
A DIWAN-themed exhibition also runs in the museum's lower level gallery through Aug. 30.
