Thanks to big oil production boosts in North Dakota, Texas and other states, U.S. net oil imports were only 45.4% of domestic oil consumption in 2011. As recently as 2005, the United States imported 60%, mostly from countries that are hostile to American interests. More domestic oil production means more U.S. jobs, more U.S. revenues, and less money for foreign oil monopolies.
