Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, endorsed Newt Gingrich today after suspending his presidential campaign, and seemed to counter his own debate attack about Gingrich's infidelities by reminding Christian voters of the need for forgiveness.

"Today I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Newt Gingrich," Perry said, describing Newt as a "conservative visionary."

"Newt is not perfect, but who among us is?" Perry added, in brief allusion to Gingrich's marital infidelities. "The fact is that there is forgiveness for those who seek God, and I believe in forgiveness, for it is an essential tenet of my Christian faith."

Perry's tack today seemed to oppose his comments during an Iowa debate. "If you'll cheat on your wife, you'll cheat on your business partner," he declared at the time.
