President Obama this morning addressed the national controversy over the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed African American teenager that was shot and killed in Florida.

President Obama said that it was important for the country to do some "soul searching" about the tragedy. "That means that we examine the laws and the context for what happened as well as the specifics of the incident." he said.

The shooter, George Zimmerman was not criminally charged after claiming self defense.

"If I had a son he would have looked like Treyvon," Obama said shortly, addressing the victim's parents. "I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness that this deserves and that we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened."
