At the Washington Press Club this afternoon, Alec Baldwin explained that a performance by Katie Couric destroyed morning TV shows for him.
Baldwin recalled that one day Couric performed "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" during a Halloween themed show, dressed in what he described as a "Marilyn Monroe get up, a kind of a revealing dress and a blond wig."
"That was the day I turned off the Today Show and I never watched it again, it was over," Baldwin said, who added that he "didn't need to see lip syncing at 7:30 in the morning."
Baldwin explained that today's news programs were "obsessed with the personal lives" of people in his business.
"When I go to work at a movie studio. . . down the hall there is a television program, owned by the same company that's trying to cut my throat on TV," he said.
"We live in the world of mockery now in reality shows, and people willing to laugh at other people, its kind of a Roman circus feel to it," Baldwin added.
