Eric Fehrnstrom, the Romney aide of Etch-a-Sketch fame, joined in the jokes on Twitter last night about President Obama eating dogs as a boy, after a Daily Caller story pointed out this passage from "Dreams from my Father."

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy),” the president wrote.

That kicked off a series of jokes on Twitter including a hashtag #ObamaDogRecipies.

The joke might have stayed on Twitter, but quickly garnered national attention after Fehrn tweeted a photo of Obama and his dog Bo, and commented "In hindsight, a chilling photo."

"What’s the next attack @EricFerhn and the RNC will surface on a 6-10 year old?” Obama's press secretary Ben LaBolt answered on Twitter, reminding people that the president was only a boy living in Indonesia when he ate dog meat.

If anyone thinks these types of stories will be rare during an election year, they are mistaken. By stoking a Twitter fire overnight, either campaign can elevate a topic for the next day's mainstream news reports.
