This is kind of cool. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., made a half-court shot during an event at a local youth center as he campaigns for reelection this year against Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren.

"As a member of the Boston Celtics, I've seen some pretty good basketball shots.  This one from my friend Scott Brown ranks right up there!" Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Dave Cowens wrote in a message from Brown's reelection campaign. "On Friday, in front of a group of excited kids at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center, Scott made another big shot: draining a half court bomb."

Brown isn't the first candidate to bring basketball into a race, but he's the first I've seen to make a half-court shot. President Obama made a three-point shot when visiting troops in Kuwait during his 2008 presidential campaign.

For those of you who don't follow Boston sports: ESPN's Bill Simmons, aka the Boston Sports Guy, memorialized Cowens in The Book of Basketball as "the guy who never took a night off, the guy who cared just a little bit more than everyone else" en route to winning a league MVP and multiple titles. Simmons ranks him the 31st greatest player of all time.

Brown won Ted Kennedy's seat in a 2009 special election by promising to vote against Obamacare. He is running against Elizabeth Warren, one of President Obama's top advisers on financial regulatory policy.
