Vice President Biden held a "Cinco de Mayo" breakfast with Hispanic leaders today, celebrating the Mexican holiday a few days early.

According to the pool report, Biden noted it was "Dos de Mayo," but said that "any excuse to celebrate" and "any excuse to celebrate with you."

He called the day "more than about battles, it's a celebration of friendship between Mexico and the US."

The Vice President then toasted the company with a glass of water, noting that his Irish believe that it was considered bad luck to make a toast with water. Biden joked he could hear his grandfather admonishing him, "don't do it Joey," but gave a toast anyway.

"To friendship, to Mexico and to America, Happy Cinco de Mayo," he said.

The guests ate Potato and Egg Omelettes w/ Tomatillo and Poblano Sauce; Chorizo; Roasted Tomato and Sliced Avocado, while a Mexican mariachi quartet performed during the reception.
