Former George W. Bush advisor Karl Rove has angered the White House, which rebuked him today for having the "gall" to run campaign ads faulting President Obama on spending issues.

"You have to admire the sheer gall it takes to argue, as some have, I’ve noticed, when it comes to responsible fiscal stewardship that the very "architect" -- and I put that in quotes -- who served a President who inherited budget surpluses projected to last into the future, and then eight years later delivered the largest deficits in history, is now arguing that those ideas, the policies that created that situation are superior than the President’s policies," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters today.

Carney was apparently reacting to Crossroads GPS, a superPAC led by Rove, that began airing an ad in 10 states yesterday hitting Obama. Here's the text of the ad:

Why isn't the economy stronger? In the seconds it takes to watch this, our national debt will increase $1.4 million. In 2008 Barack Obama said, "We can't mortgage our children's future on a mountain of debt." Now he is adding $4 billion in debt every day. Borrowing from China for his spending. Every second, growing our debt faster than our economy. Tell Obama: Stop the spending. Support the New Majority Agenda at NewMajorityAgenda.org

Crossroads is mounting a $25 million ad campaign against the president.
