WHO: Teton Area Wildfire Protection Committee in Teton County, Wyo.

WHAT: The local fire prevention committee approved more than $500,000 in federal stimulus money for logging to prevent forest fires.

WHY IT'S AN OUTRAGE: According to the U.S. Forest Service, the committee awarded the work to three companies run by its own members, without advertising for bids. They also paid $4,000 per hour for helicopter logging when much cheaper land logging would have worked just fine. The contractors have no invoices for most of the work allegedly performed.

Where to vent: Wyoming State Forestry Division, 307-777-3368.
