D.C. United is close to adding more cover on the wing with the addition of former Houston Dynamo midfielder Danny Cruz, according to multiple sources.

Cruz, 22, is coming off his third season in MLS since being drafted by the Dynamo in the third round of the 2009 draft, a late pick given his membership in that year’s Generation Adidas class following two years at UNLV. His contract expired at the end of 2011.

Cruz had four goals and five assists in 51 regular-season appearances (27 starts) with the Dynamo.

He was too young for the re-entry draft process so Houston still retains his rights, but he is not currently listed on the roster on the Dynamo website. In order to land with D.C. United, a trade with Houston would have to take place.
