A Fauquier County Sheriff's deputy was shot in the leg and another stabbed in the face by an alleged bank robber while he waited for hearing at a courthouse in Warrenton, authorities said.

Both deputies were in stable condition following the incident Wednesday afternoon.

A sheriff's spokesman said 30-year-old George Golder Phillips II was in a holding cell at the Fauquier County Circuit Court when he was allegedly able to grab a deputy's gun around 1 p.m. Wednesday. He allegedly fired the gun into a deputy's leg and stabbed another deputy in the face with an unknown object.

Phillips was taken back into custody. In November, he was charged in connection with three Fauquier County bank robberies, authorities said.
