White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett played coy when asked about her reportedly vast influence over President Obama during an interview this morning.
Politico’s Mike Allen snuck in the question about Jarrett’s influence in the West Wing as she said that Obama “listens pretty closely” to his wife.
“And to you?” Allen asked.
“Well, maybe,” Jarrett answered before continuing with her point.
Jarrett has avoided press questions about a profile dubbing her “the other power in the West Wing” that ran in The New York Times.
“He’s got a real mess in the West Wing,” The New York Times quoted “one close presidential adviser” as saying. “Valerie is effectively the chief of staff, and he knows, but he doesn’t know. She’s almost like Nancy Reagan was with President Reagan, but more powerful.”
