Former D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown is holding up well as he awaits sentencing later this month on the criminal charges that drove him from office, his attorney said Tuesday.

"He's doing fine," Fred Cooke told reporters. "He's around. You guys have seen him. He's tweeting."

Brown resigned on June 6, two days before pleading guilty to a federal bank fraud charge and a local campaign finance violation. He will be sentenced on Sept. 20 and faces up to a year behind bars on the two charges, though legal experts say it's unlikely he will receive that long a prison term.

The man who rose to be the District's second-ranking official largely disappeared from public life after he entered his guilty pleas. He has occasionally surfaced on Twitter, though, including a June 25 quote from "Princess" about karma.

"No need for revenge," the photo Brown posted said. "Just sit back and wait. Those who hurt you will eventually screw up themselves, and if you're lucky, God will let you watch."

Court records show that Brown traveled with his family to Florida for the Labor Day holiday. Cooke said his client was scheduled to return to the D.C. area on Tuesday.
