Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said general manager Bruce Allen spoke with Chris Cooley on Thursday. But Cooley’s return does not appear imminent.
There’s no reason for him to return at this point anyway. All three tight ends are healthy as is fullback Darrel Young. But if something happens to one of their tight ends, the Redskins would consider bringing him back.
“It was a good conversation,” Shanahan said. “Chris is such a big part of this organization. He’s looked at his options. We talked about things that could happen throughout the year.”
Cooley said he would settle for a lesser role in Washington than what he’d want with another team, stemming from his desire to play here.
“Right now he’d like to still come back as a starter possibly if someone goes down,” Shanahan said.
