D.C. Council set to reconvene

The D.C. Council will return to work on Wednesday after a two-month summer recess.

In a nod to the scandals that have forced two lawmakers to resign, Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said he expects the council's fall session to include work on ethics in government.

"We are still seen as part of an ethically tarnished government," said Mendelson, who became chairman in June after Kwame Brown resigned as a part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

Wednesday's agenda includes planned votes on tax breaks for technology companies and changes to a law that deals with how the District handles out-of-state traffic violations for D.C. residents.
