The suspicious package that snarled hundreds of commuters on the Virginia Railway Express Wednesday night did not contain human remains, according to the Manassas Park Police.

The police department shut down service on the train tracks Wednesday evening just before 7 p.m., after the package was found, and didn't reopen them until about 9:30 p.m.

Scores of commuters trying to get home had to board buses instead.

Initial reports indicated the package might have human remains inside, but police said Thursday morning that the Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that the remains are not human.
