Close will be good enough for LSU

After another unimpressive win, LSU dropped a spot in the rankings for a second straight week. The now-No. 4 Tigers were down 9-7 in the second quarter against Towson, an FCS school, before LSU scored 24 straight points and won 38-22.

The victory comes just a week after LSU squeaked by Auburn 12-10.

But over the years coach Les Miles has perfected winning ugly.

In 2010, the Tigers won six games by seven points or fewer on their way to an 11-2 season. And last year LSU was on the winning side of the regular-season 9-6 slugfest against Alabama.

So a couple uninspiring wins shouldn't surprise or alarm LSU fans.

But what should is the Tigers' upcoming schedule. LSU plays three top-10 teams -- No. 10 Florida, No. 6 South Carolina and No. 1 Alabama -- in its next four games. Then the Tigers will host No. 20 Mississippi State on Nov. 10.

Close wins in the coming weeks definitely won't cause them to drop more in the rankings.
