A weeklong promotion, "From the Bay, For the Bay," kicks off its efforts to help restore the Chesapeake Bay. Restaurants from Philadelphia to Northern Virginia will participate, featuring fresh Maryland seafood on their menus, and donating a dollar for every Maryland seafood dinner that is sold to the Oyster Recovery Partnership in Annapolis. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring the promotion and more than 70 restaurants have signed up to participate. The proceeds from last year's event reached $25,000 for the Oyster Recovery Partnership, a non-profit group that helps to replant and replenish the Chesapeake Bay oyster population.
