Now, it's getting serious in the Massachusetts Senate race between challenger Elizabeth Warren and incumbent Republican Sen. Scott Brown.

In his latest outreach to Bay State blue collar voters, Brown has thrown down the gauntlet: He's waving the endorsement of past stars from the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots in front of voters.

"He's my MVP," said legendary Celtics most valuable player Bob Cousy in a new web video for Brown. "Scott Brown can be a quarterback for Massachusetts," added former Patriot QB Drew Bledsoe.

The video, titled "Sports Legends for Scott, includes former Celtic greats Cousy, Dave Cowens and JoJo White, and Patriots stars Bledsoe, Steve DeOssie and Fred Smerlas.

One overriding theme is the independence Brown has shown from marching in GOP lockstep. "He is an independent thinker," said White. "We need independent thinkers who will vote their conscience and not their party," added Cousy.

Smerlas simply said, "He's in it for Massachusetts."
