A top Arlington County official is reportedly warning residents that "the rabbit is dead."

During Thursday's joint meeting of the Arlington's County Board and School Board, County Manager Barbara Donnellen spoke about the county's future budget woes, telling the gathering that the weak economy has left the county with little money and no accounting tricks left to pull from the hat - hence the dead rabbit.

Donnellen said looming federal budget could add to the county's woes, leading to further budget cuts or possible tax increases, such as a 1 percent hike in the sales tax.
