A 15-year-old girl was fatally struck by a car in Germantown on Wednesday morning while, police believe, she was walking to school.

About 7 a.m. , police were called to report of a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Wisteria Drive and Germantown Road. A preliminary investigation found that Christina Morris-Ward, of Germantown, was trying to cross the northbound lanes of Germantown Road when she was hit by a 2010 Ford Fusion, Montgomery County police said.

At the time she was struck, Morris-Ward was near Seneca Valley High School, where she was in the 10th grade. She was taken to a hospital, where she died, police said.

The driver of the striking vehicle, 27-year-old Kevin Bradley Carlson of Germantown, stayed at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks said that at the time of the accident, it was cloudy and the road was damp with some dry patches.
