Mount Vernon puts George Washington online

Local,Abby Hamblin

In an attempt to become the definitive source for information on George Washington on the Web, Mount Vernon has launched a new online initiative called "The Digital Encyclopedia of George Washington."

This project is part of a larger effort at Mount Vernon to improve interest in the history of Washington, including the building of a new library, The Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington, which is planned open in fall 2013.

The encyclopedia includes more than 200 digital source materials and objects from the first president's estate. The encyclopedia can be found here.
