A 41-year-old man is dead following a single-vehicle, fiery crash in Anne Arundel County, officials said.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, police were called to Corporate Center Drive near Old Stoney Run Way in Hanover.

According to an investigation, Vernon Bryant Jr., of Hanover, was driving a sport-utility vehicle on Corporate Center Drive when he failed to negotiate a curve. The SUV left the road, struck a guardrail and continued moving as the guardrail traveled through the vehicle, causing the vehicle to catch on fire, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

When officers arrived on the scene, the SUV was fully engulfed by fire. After firefighters extinguished the flames, Bryant was found inside the vehicle, police officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not know Monday morning whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
