Police charge father of boy who fell 9 floors

The father of a 4-year-old who fell 90 feet from a Silver Spring apartment has been charged with child neglect.

The boy was left alone on Oct. 11 in an apartment on the 8800 block of Piney Branch Road when he fell from a ninth-floor apartment window, according to Montgomery County police.

The child suffered injuries to his head and legs and remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Christopher Keith Harley, 30, of Temple Hills, was charged with child neglect and leaving a child under the age of eight unattended.

B-W Parkway carjacker sentenced

A District man was sentenced Monday to more than 11 years in prison for a carjacking on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, officials said.

Reginald Calloway, 25, admitted that on Jan. 25, 2011, he and Terrence Kelvin Shepherd, 28, spotted a 2004 Nissan Murano stopped on the shoulder of the parkway.

The pickup pulled up to the Nissan. Calloway pointed a gun at the driver, ordered the driver out of the car and took his wallet before speeding away in the victim's Nissan.

Calloway and Shepherd were seen at a gas station on Kenilworth Road in Northeast D.C., a court document stated.

Officers then found a handgun at the gas station and the victim's debit card in a nearby trash can. Calloway's fingerprints were found on the stolen vehicle.

Shepherd, of D.C., pleaded guilty to carjacking and was sentenced to more than five years in prison.
