The New York Times reveals that President Obama did not want to accept David Petraeus’s resignation, after Petraeus informed him personally that he planned to leave the C.I.A.

Petraeus met with the President on Thursday, but Obama told the C.I.A. director that he would “think about it overnight.”

According to the New York Times, Obama “did not want Mr. Petraeus to leave. But he ultimately decided that he would not lean heavily on him to stay” and accepted the resignation on Friday.
