A man survived getting hit by a Red Line Metro train Sunday morning with apparently minor injuries.

The man came off the Fort Totten platform shortly before 9 a.m., Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said. It remains unclear whether the man jumped intentionally, as video and witness accounts indicate, or whether he fell as he later claimed.

The train's operator was able to stop the train upon seeing the man on the tracks, Stessel said, but the man ended up hit by a portion of the train.

He was able to crawl out from under the train, Stessel said, and stand up by himself. He had abrasions and was taken to a local hospital for treatment and a psychological evaluation. His name was not released.

Trains had to single track around between Fort Totten and Takoma until about 10:15 a.m., Stessel said.
